Fall Layering

Cooler temperatures will be hitting very soon, for the Fall season is upon us. In Northeast Georgia, the temperatures will start going down a little bit in the middle of September. Fall is my favorite season! The fashion during this time is what I am most comfortable with wearing- all of the neutrals, chunky knits, riding boots, and vests. One thing I haven't mastered yet is layering. I can be kind of confusing for me, because I see it done well but when I try, it doesn't look as good. After doing some research, I found three common layering ideas.

#1: The tank
A tank can be styled in all seasons. Channel those late-summer, flowy tanks by pairing it with a button down (don't button it up) or a lightweight jacket.

#2 The button down
I will be wearing this more when the winter season hits for sure, but for fall, I would wear it with a cozy cardigan or under a sweater. If you want a preppier look, definitely opt for the button down and sweater and for a relaxed look, go for the button down and cardigan!

#3 The vest
One of my favorite pieces beginning in the fall are vests. It's the extra detail to any outfit. I would pair this lightweight vest with a piko top or a shirtdress. J. Crew has great puffer
vests if you wanted something more heavy.

* All pieces are from Nordstrom BP

Fall Mood Boards

One of the many things I learned at Parson's over the summer was the importance of mood boards. We had to create multiple mood boards to gather inspiration for our designs. It makes a difference when you combine items you are currently loving into one idea! Every season, I change out pictures on my "inspiration" board in my room to new photos for whatever season is upon us. Even though the official Fall season isn't until September 23, the first day of September basically means Fall in my head. Fall is my FAVORITE season. Football season, the colors, bonfires, my birthday..I could go on forever for the reasons I love Fall. {Now onto my inspiration board} > The photos below are what I chose to be my on my Fall board. What I do is, I go through Pinterest and Tumblr feed and pick out photos I like, specifically by the colors, and decide which ones make it on my board. I'm obsessed with all of these colors and that's why I chose them. Neutrals are more of my thing!

Enjoy!

Fall Graphic Tees

I've never been a big graphic-tee person as I've aspired to be. My issue is that it's hard for me to find the right tee. While I love J. Crew's tees, I also love Madewell's. I see other bloggers pull of a perfectly, put-together look of a tee and jeans. It's simple, yet speaks so much for the person you are. I've rounded up a few graphic tees I think will be perfect for fall, courtesy of Madewell :).

Ole Miss College Tour

A few weekends ago, my parents decided to take me to visit the University of Mississippi. Ole Miss is a college I am interested in and I had always wanted to visit!

Ole Miss is located in Oxford, Mississippi. It's about a six and a half hour drive from where I live. It has a very small-town feel, yet it's so hectic during the school year! Unfortunately, students were not there yet so I was unable to get the feeling of what it would actually be like to attend there, however, I plan to go back! The campus was gorgeous, and contained lots of historic buildings, like a hospital for the Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. The buildings were fairly new besides those, which is appealing to me. My family and I explored the downtown area during the day and night. We ate at Big Bad Breakfast and City Grocery. I highly recommend both if you're ever in the area, especially the shrimp and grits at City Grocery! The last picture above is me in front of the Kappa Delta house. My mom was a KD at Georgia Southern and we were fortunate to be able to tour the newly, refurnished house since she is an alumni. It was so pretty!!! I plan to rush wherever I go!
Hotty toddy!

What I'm Reading: Southern Living

I've always had an appreciation for good 'ole, southern things- aka, Southern Living Magazine. I was even more excited this month, because as you fashion-lovers know, all of the September Issue cover stars are being revealed. Reese Witherspoon is on the cover of Southern Living for September 2015!

Reese recently came out with her own southern fashion line, Draper James. I was very intrigued in this because I want to be a designer, but I was struggling with whether or not to move to New York for couture or stay down South and pursue southern clothing. Reese just proves that you can do it all! I love how she is embracing her roots and culture. Women in the South love dressing up and looking put together. Every time I go to a college football game, I dress up because my father always told me I could never be underdressed at an event. (Yes, football is an event here.)  Parties are lavish, and hospitality is the real deal. Check out Reese's full article here, as well as her clothing line!

Nordstrom Fashion Ambassador

Hey, y'all! I've been back in school for a couple of weeks now, getting back into the routine of things. Last week, I had my first Nordstrom Fashion Ambassador meeting of the year! I posted about my acceptance into the program back in June, and I was looking forward to the first meeting.
Outfit details:
Top: Ann Taylor
Jeans: Paige
Shoes: American Eagle
Watch: Gold Michael Kors
Necklace: 'Rae' Kendra Scott
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff

I could not love my Nordstrom fam anymore than I already do! Everyone was kind, friendly, and talkative. We got straight to business when talking with the manager of BP and her assistant. They asked us what we liked that was on the floor, what we didn't like, how we could get more teens to shop at Nordstrom, and more! One of the things we heavily discussed was social media. It really does have a tremendous impact on the consumer and it's important to market your company/business. I can't wait to learn much more!

Back to School Essentials

It's hard to believe I begin my senior year of high school this Friday, but I could not be more excited. I've always dreaded going to school but this year, I am so excited because I graduate and for all of the many, new changes that is to come.
My school supplies are a little basic this year, but I did discover how much of a difference it can make if something is "cute." For example, I will continue to get a Lilly Pulitzer or Kate Spade agenda every year because it motivates me to write my assignments down. I believe it is a great investment and can make all the difference in your schooling. I've had the binders above before (still do) because they last. They are not plastic, therefore, they do not rip or tear as easily because it's made from a thicker material. It's a great option if you want a sturdier binder!
I am super excited to be using my new backpack this year. I had been using The North Face Recon backpack for 4 years!! It was still holding up great, but the color was fading and I really wanted black. Plus, I will use this in college. I got it for a great deal at an outlet store near me (only $35!).

What are you most excited for school this year?

My Late-Summer Makeup Routine

With my summer slowly coming to an end, I thought it was time to share my makeup routine. Even though I don't post many pictures of myself on my blog, I always have the desire to know what other makeup products girls use. Makeup tends to be a girls best friend (one of many). Normally, most women wear less makeup during the summer. I normally do, but today I wanted to share my entire routine, which I would only use if I'm going to an event or somewhere important. I want to rave about a few of these products because they are oh, so good. I will share my fall/winter makeup routine later on in the coming months!

Bobbi Brown Foundation:
Being born with eczema and having very, very sensitive skin, it can be challenging finding the perfect product for my skin. I've tried a lot of things, and will continue too as I grow older, but for now, I love, love this foundation by Bobbi Brown. It gives just the right amount of coverage without it leaving/showing a caked-on feel. Plus, it has SPF!

Maybelline Power:
I'm not much of a powder-only person, but when I am, this is my go-to. I put this on after I apply my foundation to set it, or sometimes I will wear just this powder. It gives great coverage and leaves your skin looking very smooth!

Maybelline Mascara:
My eyelashes are naturally very long, and I love wearing mascara to enhance the fullness of them. I swear by this mascara. It is the best one I have ever used (alongside Urban Decay). Trust me, I have went through my fair share of mascaras trying to find the one that will make my eyes pop and this one is it!

Product Review: Rebecca Minkoff Bag

When I met Rebecca Minkoff at her store in SoHo, I could not possibly have left without buying something. I've noticed her Mini Mac bags are very popular, and I began eyeing one on the sales rack. This was the color I got, because I don't have one like it. I really like this bag; it's the perfect size for going out with your friends or to football games. It might not hold a regular size wallet, but if you put a mini wallet/ card case in there, it will fit! My sunglasses, mini wallet, chapstick, lipgloss, and phone all fit in there. It has a little pocket on the inside you get stick your phone in for quick access. I will definitely be using it for football games my senior year and in college!

Back to School: Agendas

Last year, I purchased a Lilly Pulitzer agenda for my junior year. My school provides us with agendas, but something about having something cute and fun makes it easier for me to stay more motivated throughout the year if my information is written in a cute spot. I was so happy with my agenda, that I decided to get another one this year! I rounded up a few agendas that I love (the one I purchased is on here).

My best friend purchased the Lilly 'Wild Confetti' agenda on the bottom left and I got the 'Tusk in the Sun' agenda (top middle.) I'm really excited to get it in the mail so I can write down all of the important dates in it! A lot of girls go back and forth between Lilly and Kate, but I think it just depends on your preference. The Kate Spade agendas are very adult-like, and do not contain fun sayings at the beginning of each month like the Lilly ones do.

If you would like to see how I organize my agenda, let me know in my Tumblr or comment below! :)

Lessons From My Stay in New York City

When I first arrived in New York on July 5, I can no recollection of what my three-week stay would entail. I would be alone for the first time without my parents in a city with 9 million people and a classroom full of strangers. I wasn't nervous, really- more excited. I'm already a super independent person, so being able to be more on my own was just what I needed. I've learned a few things from my stay here and would love to share them!

Meet new people
I've met some of the greatest and most talented people here. I will truly miss my friends here but will definitely keep in touch with them. As independent as I am, it was good for me to branch out and meet people from different parts of the world.

Find yourself
If anything, I feel more comfortable in my own skin. Before I came here, I was restless over a situation that had been finished and it was starting to kill my vibe. The more time I spent here, the more time I realized I was enough. Just me, my dream, a city I love, and people to spend my time with. I realized what I was good at and what I had a passion for, and it will only continue to fuel my drive for the future!

Venture out
Many days after class or on the weekends, my friends and I would go explore our area or go check out new restaurants. We loved, loved SoHo, Greenwich Village, and Chelsea. I've gotten comfortable with my area (Greenwich) and navigating myself around SoHo.

Subways are..complicated
I thought I would immediately understand the subway. Yeah, WRONG. Even after three weeks here, I only know a few stops by heart that I could go to and from without having to ask someone. Worst case scenario, do ask someone who works at the station or take a cab- don't walk around New York at night by yourself trying to find your way around.

See what it's like being on your own
As I mentioned before, I am already an independent person. Some people aren't, which is okay, but it is nice to learn how to do things for yourself. Sometimes, I would go take walks by myself just to be alone and enjoy the city. I had a curfew every night, but other than that, I did not have to ask my parents if I could go out everyday. It was nice being able to think for myself and get an accurate experience of what college will be like.

Not everyone is like you
I have a very good work ethic and the ability to get things done. Even with everyone in my class having an interest in fashion, not everyone had the dedication and love for it like other people. It would frustrate many of us when another student would not attend class for whatever reason, considering the program was so short and intensive, we felt very lucky to be here. I realized that it's important to accept not everyone will have the same love for fashion that I do, and that it's okay. I can only do me!

My Topshop Favorites

I only recently heard of Topshop a few months ago, but looking at their style, I could picture myself wearing some of their things.  My friends are obsessed with Topshop and we went to a store in SoHo. I love being able to analyze and feel fabrics in person, but online shopping is much more of my thing! I rounded up a few of my favorite Topshop pieces!

New York City: Week One

I've been in New York since July 5th but I thought it would be neat to do a recap of my first week here. It was all about starting my class, meeting new people, and getting adjusted to the city life. I've had an amazing time so far, and wanted to share some photos!

A view from my friends dorm at the University Center!

This neat sign is in a coffee shop by the school.

On the right is the school; I love this view!
Donna Karan's loft at Urban Zen in the West Village.

Bryant Park blooms.
My parents spent the week in Long Island, then came back in the city to stay for the weekend before leaving to go home to Atlanta!

Meeting Rebecca Minkoff

While in class one day, my friends and I came across an Instagram post from Rebecca Minkoff's page saying she was having a meet and greet, and a first look at her Fall 2015 Collection at her store in SoHo. We immediately sent an RSVP email for the event and became so excited to actually meet a designer. My friends and I got dressed up and walked from our Parson's dorm to her store (about a 20 minute walk.) When we first walked in, we were greeted by associates and made our way around the store to meet Rebecca. First off, she was so nice. She came up to my group of friends and we told her how we were studying at Parson's. She even asked where we were all from!

I was in love her Fall 2015 Collection. Everything was my color palette (black, white, gray, green, burgundy) and I wanted to buy everything! One of my friends and I got a purse and my other friend got a pair of boots from her Fall Collection. We stayed at the event the entire time. Another fun thing was that, Blair Z, a fashion illustrator, would draw portraits of you if you purchased something from the store. I'm currently waiting to get mine made (Blair had to leave).
With that being said, it was amazing to have been able to meet a designer. My class toured a branch of Donna Karan's business last week, but atlas, we did not meet her. I love everything Rebecca Minkoff designs and instantly became inspired by her collection. Everyone was so kind and fashionable. Also, how cute is that New York poem?!

Hi, From New York!

Hello, everyone!
I realize it has been over a month since I have posted. I've spent some time thinking about blogging, if it's right for me, and what I need to change.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I was planning to study at Parson's Pre-College Summer Intensive Studies, (where I am now) and I am taking Fashion Design Communications.
Being in New York has allowed me to become more open minded about my future. I am planning to become a fashion designer, and with that being said, my posts will be somewhat changing. I might post pictures of my sketches, as well as designers I love, but still post things about my senior year/high school/life general stuff-(because I love it:)).
Also, I changed my blog from Peaches & Cream to Carly Mixon. I want to make my blog more personal and universal. My Tumblr Url has also changed: carlymixon.tumblr.com.

Stay tuned for more! :)

Outfit: Shades of Pink

I've had this dress for about a year now, and I love it! It has a slight slit on the bottom but it's super cute and perfect for summer. You can pair any necklace with it, but pairing it with a lighter pink worked better for me!

Have a great weekend!

An Opportunity

Hi, all! Back in February, I applied for the Nordstrom Fashion Ambassador Program. It's a program where rising high school juniors and seniors can meet at their local Nordstrom and get ins and outs of the industry, as well as make key decisions with the BP region of the store and have an influence on buyers. I've loved Nordstrom for years, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity. After you filled out your application, if you were selected for an interview, you would have to present a fashion project which consists of something that shows your personal style and what inspires you. In late May, I received an email saying I was selected for an interview so I immediately began creating my project-(I'll post pictures of it when I get it back!).

The day of my interview, I was a little nervous. I had never done a real interview before and my mom was asking me questions to make sure I was ready. My outfit was perfectly put together, along with my hair and makeup. I was ready! When I got to the Nordstrom in Atlanta, my mom and I walked around the store to wait on the manager to get there so we could begin the interview. Finally, the manager approached me and immediately asked me what brand my shoes were! #youknowyou'reinfashionwhen..  The manager, Ashley, was so chill and easy to talk to. While the interview was still somewhat formal, she was very laid back and I felt very comfortable. She described her day-to-day schedule, what I would be doing if I got on the board, and cool perks of being on the board. For example, TopShop just came to Nordstrom and she said her board members were a huge part of bringing that to the store in Atlanta. I was stunned! Even though I felt good about the interview, I didn't want to jinx myself into not getting on the board. I would either be notified by email or via phone if I got onto the board.

About a week and a half later, I got an email... I had gotten onto the board!!!! I was super excited. My parents and my closest friends were very proud of me. I am happy to announce I will be on the 2015-2016 Nordstrom Fashion Board in Atlanta, Georgia. With all of that being said, I never even knew Nordstrom offered this opportunity for teenagers to learn about fashion until I saw it on Tumblr. Plus, it had said on the application I would hear back by a certain date if I had been selected for an interview and when I didn't hear anything, I assumed I didn't get it. Then one morning, after I had made a big change in my life the day before, I got the email saying I was selected. It was odd, yet perfect timing and truly made me value the opportunity I was being given. So, my two cents is, if you have an opportunity to get your foot in the door into a field you love, do it. Opportunities don't come around often and taking them opens more doors than not taking them ever will.

Things I Love From Lilly Pulitzer

I basically failed as a blogger this past week...I've been super busy with work and a project for the Nordstrom Fashion Ambassador program that I've barely had time to even read blogs! I'm getting back into it, trust me. I have a plan to post a few things I have coming up soon!
In the meantime, Lilly Pulitzer now has an APP!!! (yes, you heard me.) It's to die for, and makes shopping a lot easier now. I used to wear Lilly as a little girl, but as I got older, I started wearing different 'name brands' as you would say. With that being said, I do plan to purchase something from Lilly so I can wear it throughout my senior year and in college, because in case you didn't know, Lilly in college in the South is everywhere. Here are some of my favorites below!

Summer Plans

My summer will mainly consist of work, spending time with friends and family, and going to study at..

I've been given the amazing opportunity to study at Parson's Pre-College Program this summer in July. I am so thrilled, I can barely stand it!! I'm studying Fashion and Design Communications, which is looking into trends, fashion culture, imaging, and styling. It's great for areas of the industry such as magazines, styling, public relations, and brand management.
I've always had a passion for writing and fashion. After taking AP Lang this year, I realized I wanted to further my studies in it, while doing something else I really love. I'm so excited to be going to live in New York City for 3 weeks at the dorms in Greenwich!
I also plan to be blogging my whole trip whenever I can! If you'll be in the city around that time, shoot me an email and we can meet! :)

One Year of Peaches & Cream

About a year ago today, I was posting random pictures to my blog with no caption or purpose. My blog was called A Little Bit of Everything if some of you remember. Now, throughout the course of a year, my blog titled changed to Peaches & Cream. A lot has changed in a year with my blog! Besides my title, little changes to the blog, better posts, being on social media...it can make all the difference. I also read other blogs for guidance and because I love reading in general.

Thank you to everyone who has read my posts and hopefully gathered inspiration from them. I post to inspire and to show my audience the things I like! I cannot wait to see all of the changes we will go through next year together!

My Summer Shoes

During each season, I have a few pairs of shoes that I covet for the time being. Whether it's riding boots and booties for the fall to my UGG slippers in the winter, I truly have my go-to shoes. I am definitely more a clothes person than I am a shoe person, (sorry, shoe lovers.) Therefore, I go for shoes that are classics and that I can wear with anything. My mom has a great shoe selection so I just borrow from her since we are the same size.
Below I've picked a few of my classic, summer shoes!

{Chuck Taylor's}

I'm pretty sure converses have been around for a life time. I originally purchased these shoes for our trip to Italy because I wanted something that was comfortable and fashionable. I wear them a lot now because my job requires closed-toed shoes and of course, white goes with everything!

{Jack Rogers}

Ever since I got a Tumblr and started reading blogs, I saw these all over the place! I finally caved in a bought a pair. I will say, the Jack Rogers do take time to break in; also, order half a size up. I'm still breaking mine in! These are perfect for summer and even into the earlier days of fall!

{Tory Burch, the Reva Flat}

If I could ever work for a designer, it would be Tory Burch. Her classic, bohemian style exemplifies luxury and life through her travels. Not everyone likes flats, but I am a flats-person. The Reva flat goes with everything and can be worn in any season. They also require time to break in as well!

{Target}

I've been seeing embellished sandals a lot this season but I never wanted to pay $200 for a pair of shoes on a high school budget. I was shopping in Target one day and it was love at first sight. You can get the same look for SO much less (only $20). [similar shown below]

Here are the links for all of the shoes:

Memorial Day Outfit

Happy Memorial Day, everyone! Today, as of everyday, I am thankful for all of those men and women in the armed services who have fought for our country and the privileges we have today!

I thought navy and white would be perfect colors for the occasion. I paired this top from Old Navy, similar here with white shorts from The Loft, similar here. My shoes are from Target, a similar pair here! My earrings are currently sold out, but they are from J. Crew factory and I wore them to prom!

Have a great day!
