Product Review: Rebecca Minkoff Bag

When I met Rebecca Minkoff at her store in SoHo, I could not possibly have left without buying something. I've noticed her Mini Mac bags are very popular, and I began eyeing one on the sales rack. This was the color I got, because I don't have one like it. I really like this bag; it's the perfect size for going out with your friends or to football games. It might not hold a regular size wallet, but if you put a mini wallet/ card case in there, it will fit! My sunglasses, mini wallet, chapstick, lipgloss, and phone all fit in there. It has a little pocket on the inside you get stick your phone in for quick access. I will definitely be using it for football games my senior year and in college!

Back to School: Agendas

Last year, I purchased a Lilly Pulitzer agenda for my junior year. My school provides us with agendas, but something about having something cute and fun makes it easier for me to stay more motivated throughout the year if my information is written in a cute spot. I was so happy with my agenda, that I decided to get another one this year! I rounded up a few agendas that I love (the one I purchased is on here).

My best friend purchased the Lilly 'Wild Confetti' agenda on the bottom left and I got the 'Tusk in the Sun' agenda (top middle.) I'm really excited to get it in the mail so I can write down all of the important dates in it! A lot of girls go back and forth between Lilly and Kate, but I think it just depends on your preference. The Kate Spade agendas are very adult-like, and do not contain fun sayings at the beginning of each month like the Lilly ones do.

If you would like to see how I organize my agenda, let me know in my Tumblr or comment below! :)

Lessons From My Stay in New York City

When I first arrived in New York on July 5, I can no recollection of what my three-week stay would entail. I would be alone for the first time without my parents in a city with 9 million people and a classroom full of strangers. I wasn't nervous, really- more excited. I'm already a super independent person, so being able to be more on my own was just what I needed. I've learned a few things from my stay here and would love to share them!

Meet new people
I've met some of the greatest and most talented people here. I will truly miss my friends here but will definitely keep in touch with them. As independent as I am, it was good for me to branch out and meet people from different parts of the world.

Find yourself
If anything, I feel more comfortable in my own skin. Before I came here, I was restless over a situation that had been finished and it was starting to kill my vibe. The more time I spent here, the more time I realized I was enough. Just me, my dream, a city I love, and people to spend my time with. I realized what I was good at and what I had a passion for, and it will only continue to fuel my drive for the future!

Venture out
Many days after class or on the weekends, my friends and I would go explore our area or go check out new restaurants. We loved, loved SoHo, Greenwich Village, and Chelsea. I've gotten comfortable with my area (Greenwich) and navigating myself around SoHo.

Subways are..complicated
I thought I would immediately understand the subway. Yeah, WRONG. Even after three weeks here, I only know a few stops by heart that I could go to and from without having to ask someone. Worst case scenario, do ask someone who works at the station or take a cab- don't walk around New York at night by yourself trying to find your way around.

See what it's like being on your own
As I mentioned before, I am already an independent person. Some people aren't, which is okay, but it is nice to learn how to do things for yourself. Sometimes, I would go take walks by myself just to be alone and enjoy the city. I had a curfew every night, but other than that, I did not have to ask my parents if I could go out everyday. It was nice being able to think for myself and get an accurate experience of what college will be like.

Not everyone is like you
I have a very good work ethic and the ability to get things done. Even with everyone in my class having an interest in fashion, not everyone had the dedication and love for it like other people. It would frustrate many of us when another student would not attend class for whatever reason, considering the program was so short and intensive, we felt very lucky to be here. I realized that it's important to accept not everyone will have the same love for fashion that I do, and that it's okay. I can only do me!

My Topshop Favorites

I only recently heard of Topshop a few months ago, but looking at their style, I could picture myself wearing some of their things.  My friends are obsessed with Topshop and we went to a store in SoHo. I love being able to analyze and feel fabrics in person, but online shopping is much more of my thing! I rounded up a few of my favorite Topshop pieces!

New York City: Week One

I've been in New York since July 5th but I thought it would be neat to do a recap of my first week here. It was all about starting my class, meeting new people, and getting adjusted to the city life. I've had an amazing time so far, and wanted to share some photos!

A view from my friends dorm at the University Center!

This neat sign is in a coffee shop by the school.

On the right is the school; I love this view!
Donna Karan's loft at Urban Zen in the West Village.

Bryant Park blooms.
My parents spent the week in Long Island, then came back in the city to stay for the weekend before leaving to go home to Atlanta!

Meeting Rebecca Minkoff

While in class one day, my friends and I came across an Instagram post from Rebecca Minkoff's page saying she was having a meet and greet, and a first look at her Fall 2015 Collection at her store in SoHo. We immediately sent an RSVP email for the event and became so excited to actually meet a designer. My friends and I got dressed up and walked from our Parson's dorm to her store (about a 20 minute walk.) When we first walked in, we were greeted by associates and made our way around the store to meet Rebecca. First off, she was so nice. She came up to my group of friends and we told her how we were studying at Parson's. She even asked where we were all from!

I was in love her Fall 2015 Collection. Everything was my color palette (black, white, gray, green, burgundy) and I wanted to buy everything! One of my friends and I got a purse and my other friend got a pair of boots from her Fall Collection. We stayed at the event the entire time. Another fun thing was that, Blair Z, a fashion illustrator, would draw portraits of you if you purchased something from the store. I'm currently waiting to get mine made (Blair had to leave).
With that being said, it was amazing to have been able to meet a designer. My class toured a branch of Donna Karan's business last week, but atlas, we did not meet her. I love everything Rebecca Minkoff designs and instantly became inspired by her collection. Everyone was so kind and fashionable. Also, how cute is that New York poem?!

Hi, From New York!

Hello, everyone!
I realize it has been over a month since I have posted. I've spent some time thinking about blogging, if it's right for me, and what I need to change.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I was planning to study at Parson's Pre-College Summer Intensive Studies, (where I am now) and I am taking Fashion Design Communications.
Being in New York has allowed me to become more open minded about my future. I am planning to become a fashion designer, and with that being said, my posts will be somewhat changing. I might post pictures of my sketches, as well as designers I love, but still post things about my senior year/high school/life general stuff-(because I love it:)).
Also, I changed my blog from Peaches & Cream to Carly Mixon. I want to make my blog more personal and universal. My Tumblr Url has also changed: carlymixon.tumblr.com.

Stay tuned for more! :)
